Download Scratch and Register

You can download Scratch for free directly from the MIT Scratch website. There are versions available for the PC, the Apple Mac, and for Linux and you can run any scratch program on your own machine and look at the code and alter and change it as you like.

Go to http://scratch.mit.edu/download for the download page and don't bother to fill in the information (unless you are a teacher) and just click on the link at the bottom of the page to continue to the download page. We have added the links for Scratch 1.4 below:

You can browse the Scratch website at http://scratch.mit.edu and view over one million projects that have been uploaded by people like you to the website. If you get a blank space instead of a sctach application, you need to download java for your browser. Once you have a copy of Scratch on your machine you can click the download button to the right of any project and run the project inside Scratch on your own machine. This means that you can also see all the program code and change it and upload it again to the Scratch website as a remix. This is encouraged by the website and you should be pleased whenever anyone remixes your own projects.

Our videos and project can all be found on our website at http://scratch.redware.com. Please encourage the people who run your computer club to look at this site and register if thery have not already. Apart from our own site, one of the best for learning is http://learnscratch.org and there are also some training videos on You Tube.

You can also register on the Scratch website to upload your own Scratch applications to the site. The website is generally safe for young people but you should be careful not to put your full name or address or contact details into your applications as everyone can easily access this information. Messaging is built into the website so your people can comment on your projects this way. Your computer club facilitator should have created a logon and gallery for you to upload your projects for your family and friends to see.

Have fun Scratching !
